Bonitasoft announces that the AFD (Agence Française de Développement) has chosen its BPM platform as part of a project to modernize its IS and transform its operational processes. Led by the digital engineering consulting firm RS2i, this project aims to set up a modern, scalable and less costly Information System to process the AFD Group's payment processes.

The AFD Group is a public institution that helps to implement France's national policy for international development and solidarity.  AFD teams are involved in more than 4,000 climate, biodiversity, peace, education, urban planning, health, and governance projects in the French Overseas Territories and in 115  countries. With more than 80 agencies spread around the world, 995 new projects supported in 2021 for 12.5 billion euros, AFD contributes to France's commitment to Sustainable Development Goals.

"Launched in 2020, this project will replace our payment chain management solution which has become obsolete. We want to equip ourselves with a modern tool capable of adapting to our business specificities, with a scalable technology for the deployment of new projects. This new solution will be rolled out to employees at head office and in branches.”

- Anne Riebler, Head of the 'External Operations' Pole in the 'Projects and Application Support' Division within AFD's IT Department

After analyzing different approaches and solutions, AFD settled on the choice of Bonita, as this type of platform allows extensive customization of rules and workflows within the IS in place, while at the same time offering out-of-the-box configurable components.

The Bonita solution is currently being developed by the AFD and RS2I teams and its deployment is planned for 2024. The entire payment chain (from initial request to final payment) will then be integrated into the IS, which will save time and improve activity monitoring.

Anne Riebler explains:

“It took a little time because this was the first time that we were carrying out a project in agile mode, which requires a rigorous methodology and a precise definition of the associated roles and responsibilities. For our employees, this type of iterative approach required new practices, but we are already beginning to see a certain collective efficiency."

Joseph Khouri, Managing Director of RS2i, adds:

“This type of strategic project cannot be improvised and requires a real governance plan if it is to be a success. We are committed to supporting AFD teams, so that they can take ownership of this new infrastructure. They can rely on the expertise and know-how of our teams of consultants to implement and deploy new operational processes, while developing and maintaining the chosen solution at a lower cost."

Frequently asked questions
Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem accusantium doloremque laudantium, totam rem aperiam.
How is Ofelia Assistant different from an AI chatbot or copilot?
Chatbots and copilots generate answers from general knowledge. Ofelia Assistant retrieves your enterprise procedures, guides employees through each step, and orchestrates actions across teams and systems. Not answers - execution, with full compliance and traceability.
Does it work with both Slack and Microsoft Teams?
Add your answer here.
What about security, compliance, and governance?
Built in from day one. 15+ years of enterprise BPA heritage underneath. Human-in-the-loop at critical steps. Full traceability by design. The AI guides employees through the right procedure — so compliance isn't enforced after the fact, it's the natural way work gets done.
What kind of knowledge can it access?
Your enterprise documentation: policies, procedures, SOPs, knowledge bases. Scope is defined per user profile and per geography. Ofelia answers only from authorized sources. When information is missing, it says so explicitly and points to the right human contact.
How fast can we start?
Weeks, not months. Phase one is the AI assistant: answers and team coordination in Slack or Teams, no system integration required. Real value from day one. From there, you grow into execution automation system by system, at your pace.
